Bucksport Middle School's remote learning plan started yesterday. We hope that students were able to log on to their google classrooms and begin working on assignments. Since remote learning is new for both students and parents [and teachers!], we wanted to share some additional information with you.
1). 5th and 6th grade students should spend 90-120 minutes per day in remote learning, while 7th-8th grade students should spend 120-150 minutes per day in remote learning. This time does not have to be during the school day, and students do not need to work on a class during its normally scheduled time. All teachers are available between 8:00am-2:30pm Monday-Friday to support students. Teachers will have scheduled "office hours" via google hangouts each day and can also be reached by email or by calling the school at 469-6647.
2). Remote learning is more student-directed than traditional classroom learning. However, it can still be helpful to have a schedule for your day. Below are two possible ways that students can structure their day in order to get their remote learning completed but also stay active and maintain routines.
3). Almost all 5th & 6th grade students who requested a Chromebook and signed a permission slip received one on Wednesday. We still have a small number to deliver and will do so Thursday. If you would like a Chromebook, please complete the
permission slip and return it to the BMS office... a scanned, faxed, or emailed version is preferred, but you can also drop it off between 8am-2:30pm on weekdays.
4). For families without internet, we have hard copies of the assignments available in the office. Just call us to find out how you can get a packet.
5). We want to make sure all families are aware of the
FREE food service delivery options available to all children in the RSU, ages 1-18 [as long as they can chew solid food].
6). During the school closure, the BMS office is open to assist students and families. For the health and wellness of staff and families, we ask that parents call first before coming to school. We are also requesting that all visitors use the doors by the bus loop [between the library and auditorium]. And if you are sick... please stay home! We will find ways to get needed materials delivered to you. You can always call us at 469-6647 or email teachers using the
staff directory.
